FAQ: What is the Double Nappy System for Younger Children?

At SwimWay, the double nappy system is a non-negotiable requirement. All children under the age of 3 years (and older if not potty trained) must follow this system. This consists of an aqua nappy (such as Huggies) that can be bought in most supermarkets/chemists. Worn over the aqua nappy is a Happy Nappy. You can purchase The Happy Nappy online at www.splashabout.com.

“The Happy Nappy is a neoprene nappy with comfortable and snug fitting nylon elastic ribbing. Ensuring no faecal leaks in the swimming pool.  It will effectively protect against leaks that can cause serious illness. The Happy Nappy is suitable for when your baby is enrolled in swim classes or for just visiting the local pool for a good splash about.  Easy to care for simply, rinse, roll and reuse, again and again. Always keep baby and others swimmers safe, so let your baby swim with a Happy Nappy.”

Another thing to note is that newborn and young babies can get cold very quickly. However, they may not shiver yet. Our pools are heated to between 30 and 32 degrees Celcius. But it might still be appropriate for very young children to wear a baby wetsuit.
