SwimWay Holiday Swimming Tips
As parents, ensuring your child’s safety and enjoyment in the pool or at the beach is paramount. That’s where we come in! Offering expert holiday swimming tips and techniques to make your family’s aquatic experiences both fun and worry-free!
SwimWay Methodology
Since 2005, SwimWay has been dedicated to providing top-tier swimming lessons for children through our specialised swimming programme. At SwimWay our teachers are in the water alongside the child providing support without the need for floatation devices. As the child feels more secure and relaxed knowing their teacher is close by the learning process is much faster and the skills required to learn to swim can be taught more accurately using what we call “hands-on” teaching techniques. Hands-on teaching means that alongside more traditional teaching methods, you will see the instructor supporting and adjusting a child’s head or body position or moving a child’s arms or legs into the correct position for each skill to learn.
Tips For Holidays
- Before you go away, encourage your child to blow bubbles, play and submerge their face in the water at bathtime. Make it fun with lots of toys and be prepared to get wet demonstrating!
- Build confidence with a week-long holiday course prior to your holiday. We usually see great progress during holiday course weeks. Some children go from nervous beginners to kicking a little way independently by the end of the week.
- When you arrive on your holiday be sure to check out the pool and beach rules. Where it is safe to swim and how deep the water is are obvious ones. The Royal Life Saving Society has lots of helpful advice for families.
- Have Fun! Encouraging your child to enjoy the water even it that is just sitting at the side splashing their legs. Take it slowly. If you rush them and they feel scared or uncomfortable you are only going to delay the learning process.
- We are often asked should I use armbands or backpack floats for my child during a holiday. When learning to swim, no floatation aids because your child needs to learn to submerge, float and kick independently. However, if you feel nervous of this, we recommend armbands over backpacks. Either way, with or without floats, it goes without saying that you will need to be in the pool or sea with your child providing support.
As you set off on your holiday adventures, remember to prioritise safety, fun, and gradual progression in your child’s swimming journey. Whether it’s encouraging playful interactions in the bathtub or opting for a pre-holiday course to boost confidence, SwimWay is here to support your family!
