SwimWay Instructor Training: Safety Award for Teachers

Swimming teachers are legally obligated to update their Safety Award Training every two years.  At the end of November, all our instructors who required this update took part in a course. This course was run by our resident Health & Safety Consultant, Dave Perry.

Dave Perry had this to say following the completion of the course last month:

Well done to all the SwimWay Instructors that took part in the Safety Award for Teachers course on Sunday 26 November and successfully gained this qualification. It was great to tutor a team of candidates who were asking all the right questions in order to clarify their knowledge and skills and to ensure that they fully understood the theoretical and practical elements of the course. From the classroom session to the practical CPR session and the pool rescue session, all Instructors demonstrated a high level of competence in the assessment criteria and it’s great to deliver a course where you know the students they will be teaching are in very safe hands. Well done SwimWay, always a pleasure working with you!

Further Training

While all our instructors do undergo these courses every two years as required, we feel that more training is necessary. This way we can confidently ensure the well-being of all our students.

This is why we undergo further training three times a year, in addition to the required minimum.  At the start of every term, we hold a compulsory staff meeting for all our instructors. The main focus of this meeting is health and safety training.  Our last meeting took place at the beginning of September. Our next will occur in January 2018.  It is incredibly important for us to make sure our staff come to each lesson fully prepared for any emergencies.
