Our Commitment
At SwimWay, the safeguarding and welfare of all swimmers is our highest priority. Every participant has the right to enjoy lessons in a safe, supportive environment, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, religion, or disability.

We follow the STA Swimming Teaching Code of Practice on Safeguarding and ensure that our instructors, staff, parents, and swimmers all understand their responsibilities in keeping children safe before, during, and after lessons.

Safeguarding in Practice
To protect all participants, SwimWay follows these key principles:

• Lessons are planned around the individual needs and best interests of each student.
• Any inappropriate or unsafe behaviour by swimmers, parents, or staff is challenged immediately.
• Instructors only use physical contact where necessary for teaching and safety, and avoid contact with costume areas.
• Lessons are delivered in an open environment, with parents/carers present on poolside to supervise their children.
• Instructors are not permitted in changing areas while they are in use by children or parents/carers.
• Wherever possible, consent from parents/carers will be obtained before emergency first aid or medical treatment is given. However, treatment will not be delayed if it is urgently required.
• All instructors hold appropriate STA qualifications, are DBS checked, insured, and appointed in line with the STA Code of Practice.
• SwimWay provides regular refresher training for instructors in first aid, pool safety procedures, and safeguarding.

These principles are reviewed regularly to ensure best practice in safeguarding.

Reporting Concerns
If you have a question or concern about a child’s welfare, whether relating to poor practice or possible abuse, please report it immediately:

Our Welfare Officer will liaise directly with the governing body and/or the Police where appropriate. Confidentiality is maintained at all times and information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis.
