After a well-deserved Christmas and winter break, we kicked off our Spring Term feeling energised and ready for another successful term of teaching, starting with our quarterly instructor staff meeting at the Lodge Hotel in Putney.
It was wonderful to see everyone again after the holiday break and catch up on how everyone’s holidays went.
To start the meeting off, the team was split into two groups: one group began with the staff meeting, while the other started with first aid training and health & safety practices. After a meal and drinks break, the groups swapped sessions.
The meeting was hosted by Dan Pastor, founder of SwimWay, who gave a warm welcome to all attendees. Tamsin Watt, Head Coach, bookings manager, and swimming instructor, concluded the meeting with insights into teaching practices and stroke techniques, ensuring that our lessons remain as effective as possible.
Zahed Abedipour, STA Level 3 tutor/assessor and Lifesaving First Aid instructor, welcomed the team and guided us through key safety protocols and first aid procedures. We practised CPR and various first aid scenarios, supported by helpful instructional videos demonstrating what to look out for and how to stabilise an individual in different situations.
One scenario involved instructors volunteering as “casualties,” including cases such as a nosebleed and an asthma attack. The other instructors practised handling the situation effectively, demonstrating excellent knowledge and preparedness for any incidents that may occur in our swimming pools, whether with babies, children, or adults.
After a productive and engaging meeting, all staff were invited to enjoy drinks and nibbles at the Lodge Hotel bar, a beautiful venue that kept us warm and comfortable throughout the meeting.
At SwimWay, we prioritise ongoing development, providing our instructors with regular training to ensure every lesson is delivered safely and effectively. With new classes starting and our skills refreshed, we’re excited to make a splash this Spring Term. Here’s to another season of fun, learning, and success. See you at the pool!
