The two-week Easter break has come and gone, and we welcomed the Summer Term with open arms, and sunglasses. After a refreshing break, the SwimWay team came together once again for our Instructor Training Meeting, held on the first Sunday of each new term. Hosted in the auditorium at Sheen Mount Primary School, which is home to one of our pools. The session focused on refreshing our first aid knowledge and reinforcing essential health and safety practices, all while giving everyone a chance to reconnect.
SwimWay’s Founder and Managing Director, Dan Pastor, opened the meeting with a warm welcome and an overview of what’s ahead this term. He shared key updates on bookings, instructor growth, and some fascinating insights into how the company continues to develop. It was the perfect way to set the tone for a busy and exciting summer. Each moment of the meeting was captured by our talented instructor and photographer, Jordan Barale, who always manages to capture the atmosphere, energy, and character of the day so effortlessly.

Our Operational Manager and Business Support Specialist, Will McCabe, joined us live via Microsoft Teams from Poland. Walking us through the booking system, Will demonstrated how instructors can easily access their schedules, review class details, track swimmer progress, and note any important medical information. Despite joining us remotely, his clear and engaging delivery made it feel as though he was right there in the room.
Midway through the session, we paused for a well-earned break. Swimming Instructor and Facilities Manager, Ana Veronica Pastor, had thoughtfully arranged a selection of delicious sandwiches, along with juices and coffee to keep everyone refreshed. Instructor kits were also set out, ready for the team to choose from. It was a great opportunity to catch up, share stories from the Easter holidays, and enjoy a moment of downtime together.
To help us refresh our first aid knowledge, we all logged into Kahoot to complete an online quiz, which was a fun and competitive way to reinforce our skills.
After the fun quiz, we welcomed Dave Perry and Paul Finch, who are Tutors from the Swimming Teachers Association (STA). Both are STA Level 4 National Swimming Tutors, bringing a wealth of experience, and, as they joked, “over 700 years combined!”
The team was split into two groups, with one training outdoors and the other indoors. Through a series of practical scenarios, instructors refreshed their knowledge of emergency response procedures, practised CPR using mannequins, and worked through recovery position techniques with one another. The session was hands-on, engaging, and expertly delivered, ensuring everyone left feeling confident and up to date.
After another successful training day, a few of us headed over to the nearby The Victoria Pub for some well-deserved nibbles and drinks, rounding off the day with more relaxed conversation and plenty of laughter.
At SwimWay, we place a strong emphasis on continuous development, ensuring our instructors are always equipped to deliver safe, effective, and enjoyable lessons. With refreshed skills and a new term underway, we’re excited to dive into a summer of progress, confidence-building, and fun in the water. See you at the pool!
