FAQ: What To Wear For Parent & Baby Lessons?

SwimWay Parent & Baby Lessons are a popular choice for parents with children under the age of 3 years. The small classes run on weekday mornings at several of our venues. The lessons are a great way to introduce your child to swimming and water safety. But what exactly should your child wear for the parent and baby lessons?

We have a blanket rule that applies to ALL children under 3 years (and older if not potty trained)…

The Double Nappy System

This consists of an aqua nappy (such as Huggies) that can be bought in most supermarkets/chemists. Over the top of the aqua nappy goes a Happy Nappy. The Happy Nappy can be bought on-line at Amazon or Splash About. You can also purchase in stores such as Jo Jo Maman Bebe and Boots.

If your child is under 3 years, please do not bring them to lessons without the double nappy system. If you do, they will unfortunately not be permitted to swim. It is also unlikely that we will be able to offer a refund for the missed lesson. This rule applies to all children under the age of 3 years even if they are potty trained.

Please understand this rule is strictly enforced for the health and safety of everyone in attendance. Should there be an accident in the pool, it can result in closures for between an hour to 14 days. Thus, you can imagine the impact on the operation should we have to close a pool for that amount of time.

Anything Else?

Other than the double nappy system, we do not enforce any other specific swimming gear. We aim to maintain a minimum temperature of 30°C at all our pools. This is usually higher for venues running parent and baby lessons. However, if your child is a little slight and you feel they may get a bit chilly, a rash vest or baby wetsuit is also recommended.

Don’t forget all our parent and baby lessons are run with the child AND a parent/guardian in the water! So, you will need to bring a swimming costume for yourself too. Also, feel free to follow the same advice and bring along a rash vest or wetsuit if you are worried about a chill! However, we would be very surprised if you were cold in our lovely warm venues.
